Pixar’s Onward Trailer Introduces A World Of Mythical Creatures

Pixar has created some of the most fun and imaginative worlds of any studio making movies today. We've seen the world of toys, of monsters, and even the dead. However, our first look at Onward, Pixar's next release after Toy Story 4 comes out next month, shows us what might be its most unique creation yet. A world of mystical creatures...living in the suburbs. Check out the new trailer below.

The premise of Onward is that the world of fantasy that we know from books and films, the world of elves, and gnomes, and dragons and unicorns, is real. However, even in a world like that, time passes, things change, and the world advances.

In this case, it seems that the fantasy world has evolved along lines very similar to our own. People live in houses that look like ours, they drive cars, they fly in airplanes. There is still an element of the magical world that once existed however. Or, at least, that's the hope, as the premise of Onward sees two elf brothers, voiced by Tom Holland and Chris Pratt, go on an adventure to look for the magic that used to exist. Julia Louis-Dreyfuss can also be heard in the new trailer as the voice of the kids' mother.

Urban fantasy is a well known genre, especially in literature, but Pixar is calling this one a "suburban fantasy" for obvious reasons. It's an interesting idea that certainly has potential. The suburban setup will make the characters instantly relatable to moviegoers who live similar lives, but the movie will still have some fantasy elements and who doesn't love a good fire breathing dragon now and then?

This is only a tease of what's to come. In the trailer we don't see why these two have decided to go on such a quest, beyond the older brother's clear excitement by the concept. One assumes that they will find something on their adventure The other thing we don't know is how Octavia Spencer will fit into the story. She's the fourth name dropped in the credits of the trailer, but we never see a fourth major character.

Following a rash of sequels, Onward is the first of what Pixar has said will be several original projects which are all on the way. We have less than a year to wait for this one as Onward is set for a March 2020 release. It likely won't be too long before we begin to hear the first pieces of information on Pixar's next project after Onward, as an untitled Pixar film is also set to release in June of 2020, just over a year from now.

Five years ago, we were gearing up for a Spider-man sequel for Andrew Garfield’s iteration. These days, we are here readily awaiting Tom Holland’s second take at the character in this summer’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. Crazy how history repeats itself, isn’t it?

(Sadly for some) Andrew Garfield’s time as the friendly webslinger came to an end when the character was negotiated into the hands of Disney’s MCU and the studio had a new direction planned for Spider-Man (...such as turning the character to dust?) Since moving on from the role, Garfield has been taking on various dramatic roles, such as in Martin Scorsese’s Silence and his Oscar-nominated role in Hacksaw Ridge. His famed Spider-Man role is still very much a part of him, though he recently admitted some satisfaction about waving goodbye to the superhero. Here’s what he said, and be forewarned there is an f-bomb...

That was the big learning experience of my creative life, and I have so many feelings about it and I'm still a huge fan of the character. But, it was nice to be able to fling it symbolically across the room for a second. That felt really fucking good, I have to admit!

During a London screening for his upcoming movie Under the Silver Lake, Spider-Man came up in the conversation, since there is apparently a reference to the character in the upcoming film. Andrew Garfield told the audience the Easter egg is coincidental before opening up about the “complicated relationship” he has with his Spider-Man tenure, expressing both gratitude and the strange satisfaction that came with leaving the role.

Andrew Garfield has discussed how his struggle with “bearing the weight” of the iconic hero and considering the actor led a franchise that made creative decisions that led to the failure of the franchise and hand off to Disney, Garfield understandably went through some frustrations while playing the role.

Anyone else looking forward to that book Andrew Garfield mentions he’ll write someday that he thinks “no one will read”? I think he’s got a million-dollar idea there! Tons of people would love to hear the dirty details about what it’s like to play the webslinger and what led to the underperforming Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014.

Despite the circumstances, Andrew Garfield has shown his support for Tom Holland taking over the role and has moved on to show off his dramatic chops in movies such as Breathe, 99 Homes and Under the Silver Lake coming April 19. Spider-Man is in his rightful place in the MCU with Iron Man, Cap and the gang and Sony has found a way to continue establishing its own Spider-Verse with Garfield, starting with the recent success of Venom and Into the Spider-Verse. Dark Phoenix’s Alexandra Shipp Doesn’t Want A Storm And Black Panther Romance In The MCU

Since the Disney-Fox merger finally became official as of a couple weeks ago, the mutants of X-Men could join the ranks of the MCU someday. Among the many potential pairings that have been suggested among fans between Avengers and X-Men is the striking romance between Black Panther and Storm but according to Dark Phoenix’s Storm actress, Alexandra Shipp, just because Disney can now make this happen, it doesn’t mean they should. In her words:

No! No, I don’t think Storm needs T’Challa, and I think she needs her own movie! It doesn’t have to be me, it just needs to be made. A woman does not need a man in order to give her validity and she has also been around longer than him.

Looks like Chadwick Boseman T’Challa is getting the cold shoulder from the X-Men actress, but for a valid, industry-forward reason. During a roundtable interview at WonderCon (via LRM Online,) Alexandra Shipp showed her distaste with her character’s future plotline to revolve around a romance between Storm and Black Panther because she thinks the weather-controlling hero needs her own movie. Though it should be noted that Black Panther has been around since 1966, and Storm debuted on the printed page nine years later.

It’s a tiresome plotline for the women of Marvel Comics to be consistently defined as the men in their lives, one that Captain Marvel recently made a conscience effort to steer away from. Alexandra Shipp previously echoed this statement last year when asked about her ideas for a spinoff for the powerful mutant character with these comments:

I just want there to be a message of ‘this woman doesn’t need a man.’ Just one movie where a woman doesn’t need a man, really.

However, with a the addition of the X-Men to the MCU imminent, T’Challa and Ororo’s romance would be an intriguing way for the two teams to intersect and form an alliance. In the comic books, the two meet as children when Storm flees Cairo following her parents’ deaths and comes across Wakanda. Storm rescues T’Challa from being kidnapped and a love story ignites. When they are older, the pair get married with both the X-Men and Avengers in attendance though it’s a short-lived union.

Six years into it, they were put at odds for the Avengers vs. X-Men event. When her team of mutants do damage to Wakanda, Black Panther blames her for it and they get a divorce. Seeing some of this drama play out would certainly be interesting as the hero becomes more prevalent in the MCU and the possibility of the addition of X-Men in the MCU will likely be tinkered with.

Us’ Evan Alex even recently volunteered himself up to play the son of Black Panther and Ororo in a Black Panther sequel to Vulture after playing the son to Black Panther’s M’Baku, Winston Duke, in the Jordan Peele horror film. To Alexandra Shipp, Storm’s addition to the MCU would just place her even farther into the background then she already is in the current X-Men franchise. Here’s what she said:

I would and I wouldn’t (like it), because Storm barely has anything to say as it is. I don’t know about you all (other actors) but like we never talk. So it would be really nice if we weren’t piled into yet another jam packed cast, in which you only see me in the back of the shot like fucking sasquatch.

The actress certainly isn’t afraid to tell it like it is but she’s right. As is, the upcoming Avengers: Endgame film looks so packed with characters that some will likely have one or two lines. Add in a crew of mutants and there would be so many heroes on the big screen that there just wouldn’t be a way to do each of the characters justice.

At WonderCon, 20 minutes of X-Men: Dark Phoenix footage was also showcased ahead of the film’s release on June 7. What do you think about Alexandra Shipp’s comments? Looks Like Toy Story 4 Will Include Flashbacks, So Bring Your Tissues

It was a very exciting morning for Disney fans, as the first full trailer for Toy Story 4 finally arrived online. Woody, Buzz, and the gang are back together, and going on an epic journey across country with their new kid, Bonnie. Along the way, we'll meet some adorable new characters, while also being reunited with Annie Potts's Bo Peep since her noticeable absence in Toy Story 3.

The trailer revealed the basics of the movie's plot, but also showed some of the ways Toy Story 4 will be unique to the first three films. In addition to taking the group of toys on a road trip, it looks like the franchise is breaking new ground with the ample use of flashbacks. Specifically, the footage shows the toys during their time with their original kid, Andy.

The flashbacks pop up a few times throughout the course of the trailer, although the biggest gut punch shows a young Andy back in his iconic bedroom. Signature Red Cowboy hat in tow, he plays with Jessie, Bullseye, and Buzz Lightyear. It shows the love between those toys and their owner, and once again hammers down the heart-wrenching ending of Toy Story 3.

Also featured in the Toy Story 4 trailer are several shots of Bo Peep back in Andy's house with Woody. The duo of toys were the love story of the first two movies, although Bo was unceremoniously written off in the threequel. Andy's sister Molly kicked her to the curb sometime in between the second and third movies, and Annie Potts' signature Toy Story character was barely mentioned at all.

But we see Bo Peep back in her classic outfit in the first Toy Story 4 trailer, so it looks like the upcoming animated blockbuster will take us back to simpler times. While flashbacks were used briefly in moments like Jessie's Song in Toy Story 2, the franchise hasn't relied much on that macguffin. Until now.

Toy Story 3 proved to be the most emotionally devastating movie of the franchise, although it's clear the the upcoming fourth installment isn't taking any prisoners either. It should be interesting to see how the property outdoes itself in regards to tears, as the toys' near-death experience and passing to Bonnie in the threequel reduced the generations of fans into puddles.

James Gunn Teases Rocket’s Character Arc Will Be Completed With Guardians 3

Major spoilers ahead for Avengers: Endgame.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is on a serious high right now, riding the massive success of Avengers: Endgame. The movie is breaking all types of records, and is deeply connected to the other 21 movies before it. Endgame particularly focused on the heroes who survived Thanos' snap in Infinity War, including Guardians of the Galaxy favorite Rocket Raccoon.

Rocket is arguably the most damaged character in the Guardians franchise, perhaps sharing the honor with Karen Gillan’s Nebula. That’s no doubt why were they spared from the dusting, and given the chance to grow through Endgame's five- year span. And according to director James Gunn, Vol. 3 of the franchise will complete a major narrative arc for Bradley Cooper’s character. As he put it:

When you asked me what was saddest for me when I thought it was gone—and anybody at Marvel can tell you—it’s this very strange and attached relationship to Rocket. Rocket is me, he really is, even if that sounds narcissistic. Groot is like my dog. I love Groot in a completely different way. I relate to Rocket and I feel compassion for Rocket, but I also feel like his story has not been completed. He has an arc that started in the first movie, continued into the second and goes through Infinity War and Endgame, and then I was set to really finish that arc in Guardians 3. That was a big loss to me—not being able to finish that story—though I was comforted by the fact that they were still planning to use my script.

While James Gunn no doubt has plans for all of the Guardians of the Galaxy cast, it looks like we should play special attention to Rocket when the threequel eventually arrives in theaters. Because that’s the character Gunn just couldn’t say goodbye to.

James Gunn’s comments to Deadline make a great deal of sense, considering how much of an arc Groot has already had in Phases 2 and 3. Rocket was introduced in the first Guardians movie as an angry and closed off criminal. But he’s since grown into a intergalactic hero, and has a family unit in the Guardians.

In fact, Guardians 2’s last shot was on Rocket. The movie leaves us with the wise-cracking Guardian watching the lights from Yondu’s funeral, having finally found a home.

Unfortunately that family was taken away from him in Avengers: Infinity War. Thanos’ assault on the galaxy hit the Guardians hard, with Gamora was murdered by her father and the affects of the snap turning Star-Lord, Mantis, Drax, and Groot to dust. Rocket and Nebula were the only survivors, and developed their own bond which should presumably have a role in the Guardians’ threequel.

It should be interesting to see what's next for Rocket in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. It looks like Thor might be joining the next movie, and Rocket's developed quite the relationship with the God of Thunder. The Guardians (or Asguardians?) are also on the search for the past Gamora, who had time traveled with Thanos to the epic final battle in Endgame.

The Noah Centineo Movies And TV Shows To Watch If You Can't Get Enough

Noah Centineo, shirtless wonder and current Netflix heartthrob is killing it in terms of new projects right now. You can catch him all over streaming right now thanks to Netflix catching on early that the 22-year-old star was something special.

Noah Centineo is expanding out in the next year, too, in various big screen projects. His future looks bright, as he’s expected to appear in the Charlie’s Angels reboot that has already filmed. This morning, it was also mentioned he’s in talks to play He-Man lead Prince Adam in a new movie project that is just getting off the ground. Plus, he has yet another Netflix rom-com, The Perfect Date, set to hit Netflix in April of 2019. That one will even take him out of high school and into college!

While the He-Man role is unconfirmed for now, if it happens it would be a big deal for Noah Centineo, as it would mark the actor branching out even further from his TV and streaming roots. While we wait to find out more about the actor's growing career, there are plenty of projects out there if you can’t get enough of Centineo right now. Sierra Burgess Is A Loser

Sierra Burgess Is A Loser is one of Netflix’s many entries into the high school rom-com genre. This one is actually kind of also about catfishing and sisterhead, as its biggest plotline is arguably more about the relationship between Shannon Purser’s Sierra and Kristine Froseth’s Veronica than it is about boys.

Caught in the middle is Noah Centineo’s Jamey, who plays football and thinks he’s into Veronica when he’s really into Sierra. Or some hybrid of them both. I’ll leave you to figure out where the rest of that story goes.

Jumping into the world of TV, Noah Centineo actually joined T@gged in Season 2, appearing as Hawk Carter. The show has been a bit of a change of pace for the actor, as it’s a psychological thriller rather than a typical rom-com.

T@gged has had an interesting history. Originally, it appeared as a web series on go90, but the platform is now-defunct. Season 3 actually moved to Hulu, which means you can catch Noah Centineo on multiple streaming platforms these days.

The Fosters

While Noah Centineo has actually been acting since he was a kid, his actual big break was in The Fosters, a Freeform TV series that ran for five seasons before ultimately getting cancelled back in 2018 after a three-episode finale aired. On the show, Centineo played major character Jesus Adams Foster, but don’t fret if you start watching streaming the drama on Netflix and don’t see hide nor hair of the actor.

That’s because Noah Centineo actually joined The Fosters in Season 3, taking over for Jake T. Austin. The latter actor eventually revealed he left the Freeform drama due to how much screentime he was getting. Centineo didn’t have the same probably and ended up playing the character until the show’s conclusion. If you've been a fan of Centineo since his Freeform days, bravo, you were probably on to the actor's charm well ahead of most people reading this list.

Good Trouble

There's even better news, because The Fosters has a new spinoff called Good Trouble focusing on foster siblings Callie Adams Foster and Mariana Adams Foster after they relocate to Los Angeles. How does Noah Centineo factor in? Thanks to his film and Netflix work, he's not a lead in the Freeform spinoff. However, he is in Season 1 of the new 2019 series, and yes, he's shirtless once more in his Good Trouble debut, which happened back in February.  If you've wanted to know what Jesus has been up to since The Fosters wrapped, you should definitely check the new series out.

Good Trouble has already been renewed for Season 2, so hopefully we'll get the chance to catch up with Jesus some more--especially given Centineo is only credited for two Season 1 guest starring eps. Although, it should be noted that since Season 1 is still currently airing, it could be some time before we get the chance to see more from the actor on the cable channel series. Catch up on those episodes with Hulu.

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

If you are well aware of the Noah Centineo heartthrob, there’s a good chance you caught him first in To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. This was the actor’s breakthrough role on Netflix and the one that has made Noah Centineo a household name--at least in some households. Plus, back in December the subscription streaming service announced the film will be getting a sequel, so this isn't the last we've heard from these characters.

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before already used some of the story from Jenny Han’s popular book sequel P.S. I Still Love You. However, that’s not a half-cooked title and we’re hoping the sequel sticks with the name, and Noah Centineo as Peter, of course. All of Jenny Han's books in this particular series focus on Lara Jean and Peter's complex relationship as they keep pushing forward toward adulthood, so I would assume Centineo will be back for round 2.

Thanks to finding firm footing in the acting biz on streaming services, it’s likely we’ll be seeing much more of Noah Centineo whether or not his big screen ventures work out. Either way, you should have plenty of projects to indulge in for now and we'll keep you updated regarding any other projects the actor ultimately signs on for.

Re-Watch Captain Marvel's Mid-Credits Scene Before Seeing Avengers: Endgame

Warning: SPOILERS for Captain Marvel are ahead!

Since the Marvel Cinematic Universe began in 2008, each movie has included at least one extra scene either in the middle of or after the credits, many of which have teased events to come. Captain Marvel kept this tradition going last month, and with only a few days to go until the next MCU installment, Avengers: Endgame, arrives in theaters, now you can officially watch the mid-credits scene that was attached to Carol Danvers’ origin story.

Since we’re still a few months off from Captain Marvel being released on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD, the only way one could have watched the movie’s mid and post-credits scenes is either see it in theaters again or find a bootlegged recording online. Fortunately, the Marvel Studios Twitter page included it in its rundown today of the MCU’s many (but not all) mid/post-credits scenes. Alas, if you’ve been wanting to watch a high definition version of Goose coughing up the Tesseract, you’ll need to keep waiting.

As the MCU’s second period piece, Captain Marvel’s main story took place in 1995, over a decade before the events of the modern MCU unfolded. However, in the middle of its credits, we jumped back to the present day, i.e. post-Avengers: Infinity War, when half of all life in the universe was snapped away by Thanos. Infinity War’s post-credits scene showed Nick Fury activating the spruced-up pager Carol Danvers gave him before he also turned to dust.

Somehow, the surviving Avengers found Nick Fury’s pager and brought it back to their base, unsure of what it is and who’s on the other end of the signal it’s broadcasting. Lucky for them, they won’t have to wait long after it shuts off to learn who’s getting the signal, as Carol Danvers has arrived at Avengers HQ wondering where Nick Fury is. Sit down, Carol, they have some bad news for you.

While I’m not 100% sure about this, I suspect that Captain Marvel’s mid-credits scene actually comes from Avengers: Endgame itself, similar to how Ant-Man showed a portion of Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange showed a position of Thor: Ragnarok. Perhaps Endgame will show how Captain America, Black Widow and the others feared about Nick Fury’s pager, and/or maybe we’ll see Carol Danvers receive the transmission from wherever she was in the universe.

Even if that’s not the case, now that Carol is back on Earth after all these years, she can ideally help turn the tide in the upcoming re-match against Thanos. While an earlier Avengers: Endgame clip revealed how she and the other heroes intend to take the Infinity Stones from Thanos and undo his genocide, we have no idea if they’ll accomplish that. Frankly, we’re still in the dark about a lot of this movie.

Captain Marvel is winding down its run in theaters, but you can watch Carol Danvers team up with all the other surviving MCU heroes in Avengers: Endgame starting this weekend. Don’t forget to also look through our Marvel movies guide to learn what else is on the horizon for this superhero franchise.
