Stuber Trailer Has Dave Bautista And Kumail Nanjiani On A Funny, Wild Ride

While Dave Bautista is an actor clearly physically built for action movies, the guy has also proven that he has real comedic chops. Some of the funniest moments from the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies have Drax at the center, and while he didn't exactly spit out endless zingers in movies like Spectre and Blade Runner 2049, it was really only a matter of time before he took on a big studio comedy. Now we're finally seeing that project in the form of Michael Dowse's Stuber, and what makes things even better is that it's a buddy cop pairing that has him teamed up with the amazing Kumail Nanjiani. Check out the first full trailer for the movie below!

Based on an original screenplay by Tripper Clancy, Stuber centers on an Uber driver named Stu (get it?) who finds himself in a bizarre and dangerous situation when his car is hired by a tough-as-nails cop, Vic, on a mission. Not being the bravest individual, it's not a circumstance that Stu is really prepared for, and things only get worse and worse as the danger escalates.

Interestingly, this has been a rather crazy week for both Dave Bautista and Kumail Nanjiani. In the case of the former, not only is Stuber his second trailer of the week following My Spy, but we also recently got the news that he has joined the cast of Zack Snyder's upcoming Army Of The Dead. As for the latter, we learned just a few days ago that he has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as he will be starring opposite Angelina Jolie in Chloe Zhao's The Eternals; plus he was front and center in the first episode of the revamped The Twilight Zone on CBS All Access. Both of these dudes are seeing their careers heat up in a big way right now, and it's exciting that we will be getting to see them in a new comedy together.

What's surprising, though, is that Dave Bautista and Kumail Nanjiani aren't the only big names featured in Stuber - they just happen to be the ones primarily featured in this trailer. Natalie Morales, known for her work on The Grinder and Santa Clarita Diet, briefly appears, but this is a cast that also includes the likes of Karen Gillan, Betty Gilpin, Iko Uwais, Mira Sorvino, and Jimmy Tatro. It's possible that they aren't featured in the footage because their roles might be too spoilery, but no matter what the case is, hopefully it means that there are a lot of surprises in store when the film arrives in theaters.

Stuber just had its world premiere last month at the SXSW Film Festival, and is set up to be one of this summer's big comedies. The film is currently scheduled for release on July 12th, and hopefully between now and then we'll also be treated to a red band trailer.

A little less than a month ago, Best Picture winner Green Book crossed the $200 million milestone at the worldwide box office, racking up quite a bit of green to go with all that gold. Peter Farrelly’s film didn’t stop there though, as Tony Lip and Dr. Don Shirley continued to cruise at the box office. Now Green Book has passed another box office milestone. The winner of three Oscars, including Best Picture, has now made over $300 million worldwide.

Over this past weekend, Green Book’s impressive run pushed it over the $300 million mark, and the film’s worldwide total now stands at $304 million through Sunday, according to Deadline. The $23 million-price tagged film has earned $84.48 million of that total in North America, where it is now in its 20th week in release and still landed in the top 20 despite being available on home video.

Credit for that is in no small part due to the film’s Oscar wins and status as Best Picture. People have sought out the film that earned the industry’s highest honor, and Green Book has enjoyed the highest post-Academy Awards bump since The King’s Speech. Those golden statues aren’t just for bragging rights, they can confer real monetary benefits.

Green Book, a film about two characters traversing the American South in the 1960s, has proven especially appealing to foreign audiences, and this past weekend added another $4.5 million from the 62 overseas markets where it is playing. To date a whopping $219.6 million of the film’s $304 million box office has come from international ticket sales.

The biggest of those international markets, China, has really showed up for Green Book with $70.7 of the film’s box office coming from there alone. That’s the best performance for an original release Best Picture winner in the country, topping Titanic. The release window for Green Book has been extended in the Middle Kingdom until the end of the month so it will continue to add to its total there.

Other major contributors to Green Book’s $300 million feat are Japan with $14.6 million, France with $14 million, Germany with $13.5 million and the United Kingdom with $12.9 million. Notably, in all of those markets, the film didn’t open until 2019, while it has been out since November domestically.

So despite the various controversies surrounding the film, the divided critical reaction and the many people who were unhappy with its Best Picture win, Green Book has continued to prove the power of its crowd-pleasing narrative at the box office. Love it or hate it, Green Book is at least an Oscar movie that people actually saw.

Tyler Perry Has Some Ideas For A Madea Prequel Movie

With the release of A Madea Family Funeral, audiences are waving a last goodbye to Tyler Perry as his longtime alter-ego. That doesn’t mean the character can’t still live on in the future, or rather the past. Perry recently said he’s interested in working on a Madea prequel. In his words:

That's an idea that I'm thinking of doing. Letting it go back to the seventies and seeing an actress actually play her in that time.

This is a great idea! While Tyler Perry has expressed little regret about throwing out his wig and glasses following a recent final sendoff for his iconic role, Mabel “Madea” Simmons, he wouldn’t mind passing it down to a younger actress to explore the character’s roots.

Tyler Perry didn’t have a specific actress to throw out, though he did tell Entertainment Tonight he has a few in mind, though he didn't say who. I'll throw a couple to get these casting idea juices flowing: what about the star of his recent comedy, Nobody’s Fool – Tiffany Haddish? The actress is certainly one of the most popular black female comedic actress working today following her roles in Girls Trip, Uncle Drew, Night School and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.

Raven-Symoné might also be a good pick for a younger Madea and a marvelous comeback to her beginnings in comedy in Disney Channel’s That’s So Raven. There are certainly many other actresses who could take on the role and bring new life into the character that perhaps Tyler Perry no longer wishes to after giving two decades to Madea.

Tyler Perry said he has decided to bid farewell to Madea because he’s soon inching on 50 years old and doesn’t wish to be the same age and play her. He debuted the role in 1999 for his play I Can Do Bad All By Myself before the character had her first big screen outing in 2005’s Diary of a Mad Black Woman.

A Madea Family Funeral which debuted last Friday to $27 million in opening weekend box office earnings, marks the character’s eleventh film. While the film is making way more money than expected, it could not beat out the trilogy-closer for the How To Train Your Dragon films, The Hidden World, which has already made over $99 million domestically in less than two weeks.

The latest and last Madea adventure starring Tyler Perry has, however, been met with low reviews from both critics and audiences alike. CinemaBlend’s very own Corey Chichizola gave the film one lonely star in his review, calling it "a shame that Madea didn’t leave the film world under better circumstances." Rotten Tomatoes’ audience score closely shares this sentiment as just 34% said they liked it – the lowest score for the franchise.

Star Wars fans seasoned enough to have seen the original trilogy play out in movie theaters were surprised to learn Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia were actually twins -- not to mention the children of Darth Vader. It was quite a twist, and it certainly changed the dynamic between Luke and Leia.

In the first Star Wars movie, Luke was pretty obviously crushing on Leia. She later even kissed him on the lips. The relationship took on a new level of Game of Thrones awkwardness when the big reveal was announced -- and Leia responded by saying somehow she'd always known Luke was her bro. (Really, girl? OK.)

Welp, Luke didn't always know, and neither did Mark Hamill, who had this classic response when a fan asked when he learned about the sibling twist:

Yeah, maybe George Lucas should've stepped in and told Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher to save room for the holy ghost in that steamy photo.

If anyone understands inappropriate twin lust, it's a Lannister. Since the final season of Game of Thrones is now airing, Star Wars fans couldn't help but reply with references to Jaime and Cersei Lannister:

Jaime and Cersei Lannister started Game of Thrones as the twin couple who were caught, um, together at the end of the very first episode. Now the Lannisters are estranged -- although Cersei is pregnant with Jaime's baby -- and it's Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen who are the new incestuous relations gettin' it on. Dany and Jon just found out she is his biological aunt, and at least there's some awkwardness there. (He's uncomfortable that they're related; she's just upset that his claim is now stronger than hers.)

Star Wars and Game of Thrones have another thing in common in that they are ending their main sagas this year, but have more spinoff projects in the works.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is the end of the Skywalker Saga, and will include both Mark Hamill's Luke and Carrie Fisher's Leia. We lost Fisher during filming for The Last Jedi, but The Rise of Skywalker is using previously unseen footage from The Force Awakens to keep Leia in Episode IX. Luke apparently died in The Last Jedi but will still be back for the final movie, along with the also presumed dead Emperor Palpatine. Sadly, Mark Hamill never got the Luke/Leia/Han reunion he wanted (or at least we don't think he did).

Mark Hamill previously talked about a recurring silly fight he had with Carrie Fisher on Luke's royal status. He has none, as Fisher kept trying to point out, despite Hamill wanting Luke to be a prince alongside her princess. Maybe Fisher had some Game of Thrones to her in that respect, too -- the ladies want to rule!

Mister Aladdin, sir, your wish came true! After the full four-day results came in, the 2019 Aladdin movie was confirmed to have cracked the top 5 Memorial Day weekend box office openings.

From Friday through Memorial Day, Aladdin made $116,805,962. That put it well past the previous #5 on the list, X-Men: Days of Future Past, which had a four-day opening of $110,576,604 in 2014. That also put Aladdin just a hair behind Fast & Furious 6. However, it was nowhere near the top three names on the Memorial Day weekend box office board -- X-Men: The Last Stand, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and #1, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Here are all of their opening weekend details.

Disney must be sighing with relief over Aladdin, which has already made close to $300 million worldwide without even counting this weekend's grosses. The 2019 Dumbo remake had a slower start, but Aladdin hit big out of the gate. Granted, it's not #1 in its second weekend. That honor is going to Godzilla: King of the Monsters. But even with competition from other new films, Aladdin is still expected to take second place over the May 31-June 2 weekend. Box Office Mojo predicts Aladdin will make about $38 million at the domestic box office this weekend, putting it at #2 ahead of Rocketman, Ma, and the #1 titles of a few weeks ago, John Wick 3 and Avengers: Endgame.

The original animated Aladdin came out in 1992, when movie prices were a lot different. But even with cheaper tickets, that movie made $504,050,219 worldwide -- split almost equally between the domestic box office and the foreign markets. The new Aladdin still has a long way to go if it wants to even come close to that take.

But fans have really embraced the 2019 Aladdin, which was not a given, enjoying new songs like Jasmine's "Speechless":

When it comes to the top Memorial Day weekends, X-Men: Days of Future Past might've lost its spot in the top 5, but X-Men: The Last Stand is still at #3, and X-Men Apocalypse is down at #12. Thanks to that track record of success, X-Men movies tend to like to open over Memorial Day weekend. X-Men: Dark Phoenix is something of an exception this year, albeit just by a couple of weeks. That movie opens this coming Friday, June 7.

Guardians Of The Galaxy’s Sean Gunn Reveals How He First Brought Rocket To Life

After a long year of waiting, Avengers: Endgame is just days away from arriving in theaters. Moviegoers are eager to jump back into the MCU, and see how the galaxy is recovering after losing half of all life. Infinity War shocked fans by killing off a ton of characters, with the upcoming movie reportedly focusing on the survivors. From the Guardians of the Galaxy, the only ones left are Nebula and Rocket.

Rocket Raccoon is a fan favorite of the Guardians franchise, and is brought to life by a pair of actors. While Bradley Cooper voices the foulmouthed pilot, actor Sean Gunn stands in and plays the role throughout filming. Gunn recently opened up about this process, and how he essentially invented the method on the spot. As he tells it,

When I arrived in London just about a week later, it all moved really fast. It was like, OK, you ready to go? You're coming to London in a week for six months. And so when I arrived then we sort of figured out Rocket on the fly. I read Rocket in the first table read that we did, and then when we started rehearsals, I just got down on my hands and knees and started doing it from the character's height and position. And lo and behold, that's what ended up really working. And since the formula worked, we've stuck with it for four movies.

Well, this is an interesting peek behind the curtain. Because while Sean Gunn and Marvel Studios have Rocket's motion capture work down to a science, the kinks weren't worked out prior to filming the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. And Gunn's willingness to use his body and transform into Rocket on set is part of the reason why the CGI character seems so real.

Standing in for Rocket during rehearsals and filming might seem like a thankless job, but Sean Gunn has another role in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. He also plays Ravager Kraglin, one of Yondu's closest buddies. Of course, Kraglin hasn't been included in Infinity War and Endgame, so Gunn has an under the radar part in those massive ensemble projects.

Sean Gunn might not be voicing Rocket, but he has just as much ownership over the character. Since he's the one inhabiting the fan favorite Guardian during all of his scenes, he's spent more time with Rocket than Bradley Cooper. Cooper's voice performance is stunning, but someone needs to be on set to act along Rocket's scene partners. Enter Mr. Gunn.

Rocket is one of the survivors of Thanos' snap (aka The Decimation), so he should presumably have a meaty role in Avengers: Endgame. The Russo Brothers keeping Rocket and Nebula alive is an inspiring creative choice, as they're the most damaged members of the Guardians. The apocalypse may just force them together, and hopefully change their dynamic in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Was This Chris Evans' 'Stupid' Final Line For Avengers: Endgame?

Spoiler Warning: I think we all know the drill by now. Enter at your own risk!

Avengers: Endgame is still sweeping its way through the world, and while it hasn't quite taken the No. 1 spot from Avatar yet, it's taken the No. 1 spot in our hearts (or mine at least). Now that the movie has finally been seen by, like, trillions of people, longtime mysteries about Endgame are getting solved -- including one involving Chris Evans' last "dumb" line as Captain America.

Way back in October of 2018, Chris Evans was asked about what his last day on set was like and what the last line he ever recorded was. While the day itself was emotional for the actor, the last line he delivered was totally unmemorable. In fact, he said it "was something really stupid, it was something really dumb."

The line happened during reshoots, which are meant to give the film whatever it's missing. The line wasn't substantial at all, and the only other detail Chris Evans gave was that he thought it was in reaction to something that Paul Rudd's Ant-Man said.

Now that Avengers: Endgame is finally out, it's not too hard to see what's the "stupid" line. It's more than likely the now infamous "America's ass" joke that got audiences laughing, but is pretty stupid on paper.

The scene happens about halfway through the film when Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Bruce Banner, and Scott Lang have time-traveled to the Battle of New York in 2012. The group inevitably observe their past-selves, and Tony makes the comment that Captain America's Avengers costume "didn't do anything for your ass."

Ant-Man replies that he thinks it looks fine and that it's "America's ass." Later, 2023 Steve ends up fighting 2012 Captain America, and his younger self is left lying ass up on the ground. After a quick observation, 2023 Steve says, "That is America's ass." End scene.

So, you can see why that's not a super memorable way to end an almost decade-long run as Captain America, especially when Robert Downey Jr.'s last line was so fitting.

The "America's ass" joke is Marvel having a bit of meta fun. Endgame co-writer Stephen McFeely previously said that the line was a reference to the Avengers Cap costume being the worst one, and it was meant to be a fun wink at how far the costumes have come. Captain America definitely got better outfits in later movies.

Maybe Steve said some other stupid lines to Scott in Avengers: Endgame, but this seems like the strongest contender. Maybe we'll all just have to see Endgame for the fourth time, out in theaters right now.
